ESEA-O power rankings - July 3

Viaduct can be a tough map to judge from, since close games can end 4-0 and hypothetical teams with good DM but no clue whatsoever how to play 6s could still win.  That being said, there were relatively few upsets last week and no shuffles in the top 7; the remaining teams are so close together that games between most of them could go either way depending on the map, day of the week, and relative humidity.

#1 - The Westbrook Effect

Madoff & coughy
Daffodil
twobold
JOE
Kevin Durant

Pounding everybody in sight, on track for 16-0 regular season record.

#2 - Malicious Activity

circa & aim
cody
crushing
xrod/dingo
geknaiir

Still the closest thing to a sandbagging team this season, even if they suck without dingo.

#3 - No Johns

demoted & Juicy
Simulate
Huck
powergamer
cookiejake

As far as I can see, nobody remaining in the central conference can beat them, putting No Johns on track for a perfect record like TWE.

#4 - Not Around Bears

zacice & ed
mostlybacon
Morin
Moy
Differ

From this point to about #7 the teams are very close together.  NAB's 4-1 victory over Milters (with the help of ringer Burton) gives them the highest spot of of those teams for now, even if they lost 4-0 to No Johns.  Scout edward has still only played 1 match since returning as a starter, and they've been using backups for the past 4 games.

#5 - Milters

Jaker & Fubuki
Ziozma/Gluka
Sybran
Lights
CallumSLG

Starting roamer Ziozma has missed the past 3 games, but they've still been doing well and getting roughly the anticipated results in matches, including a nailbiting 4-3 win over Bote on viaduct.  This reinforces the belief that their earlier victory over Egg Salad Dressing on snakewater wasn't a total fluke.

#6 - Egg Salad Dressing

Keith & jynx
Milt
Brimstone
TheYellowCellPhone
tiptoes

After a shaky start, dealt nicely with System 2's use of Australian prem player Yui even though they were playing with a backup too.  Their scout combo puts in a frightening amount of work every single game.

#7 - Bote 6v6

bo4r & Spades
Vipa
Brick
Rightjustify
Rogue

They played much better on viaduct than on badlands, as expected, with their scouts generally going ham.  It was unfortunate that they couldn't close out the game against Milters, which was in grasp for several rounds, but they did considerably out-dm Bob-omb Squad in their next match.

#8 - Every Villain Is Lemons

Troopo & emperor
Reflecto
Faust
sail
Fabulous

As with the last 4, the next 9+ teams are very close in ability.  EVIL dispatched Hurricane Watch in a long game (for koth), owing to their better success at finishing off frags and winning overtime caps.  Sail in particular had a standout game, with stats proportional to the amount of heals sunk into him (valid strat especially on viaduct).  Do I think they would be anywhere remotely close to undefeated in the central conference?  No.  But they are no slouches.

#9 - Bob-omb Squad

ether & ebsikl
plan
mirrorman
WyZe
fusionn

Finally dealt their first loss since changing rosters (playing with a sub, but it's unlikely that affected the outcome).  Though I would gladly be proven wrong, looks like two more losses coming up on process, to No Johns and Milters.  Unfortunate but was bound to happen eventually.

#10 - WuT dUdE

Uber & bwelp
Polar
Lysol
Fahren
Translucent Feces

Viaduct turned out to be a great map for WuT dUdE, who looked in total control for the duration of both matches, pulling them up to a 7-3 record.  The downside to this is that they will probably have tough games for the rest of the season, with three straight top-8 teams already scheduled.

#11 - Hurricane Watch

The_savior & Link_1012
edy
nessie
averted
Queyh

Viaduct was their worst map last season too, but neither that nor weaning in new scout Link (who has played great since being picked up) is a valid excuse for letting sail get 430 dpm against them.  They've got 2 weeks of mid open opponents to reflect on whether they are actually a playoff worthy team.

#12 - Mario Gang (ex-Sparkle Gang black)

Barycenter & duckrider32
Kev2019
megaboy
Neo
Brulee

My intuition is that they still belong higher in this list, but they have only played 1 game since reworking their roster (having three straight forfeit wins) and it was a fairly unimpressive 5-2 victory over Bring Back The Funk.  Still, based on recent scrims (I know, I know) they may be as high as top 8 skill-wise.

#13 - System 2 (ex-Shutup Mom im Bowflexing)

Apt & Dreamboat
Def
Tino
fdwdo
Dr Shdwpuppet

Their use of Au prem player Yui for viaduct week (in their defense, it seems like they at least did need a sub) didn't pay off, dropping them below .750 for the first time this season with 2 losses to Egg Salad Dressing and No Johns.

#14 - kawaii sexu desu desu

Br0nze & SpaceGhostsCoffee
Zabi
Bacon
Hearts
Raisin

They pounded Cant Predict Stupid just as hard as a low open team this week, with their scouts(/sniper) getting an insane amount of damage and frags in both games.  If they keep playing like that they've got a good shot at making playoffs, but they need to win most if not all of their remaining games to do so.

#15 - KICKFLIP

Leaky & lee
kayc
ScrewB
Campy
Rhy

When they have a set roster and play some real opponents (hopefully starting with Mario Gang this week), they'll move up to a more respectable spot in the rankings.  Last time I ranked an incomplete team based on potential skill was Kuwumbu Jungle 2 and we all saw how well that worked out.
EDIT JULY 5: roster updated, too late to change rankings but looks promising

#16 - Cant Predict Stupid

Duke Em & negasora
pot
Smarty
GGen
Highclass

Viaduct week went poorly for them, with 2 rolls from teams that they should have been able to at least come close to.  Note that they had to play with a sub & shuffled lineup against kawaii sexu desu desu, but in both games they struggled to follow up on damage and finish frags.  The biggest issue at hand here is that they are perilously close to from eliminating themselves from playoff contention.

Just outside top 16:
Bearly Alive, Bring Back The Funk, TacoHut eSports, White Strawberry Doggos
